At New Forest Oak Buildings we offer only the best grade Western Red Cedar Shingles which are Certigrade Number 1 Blue Label ®. These top-grade shingles are 100% heartwood, 100% clear and 100% edge grain.
Shingles are sold in bundles with each bundle weighing 18KG approx, though this can vary due to moisture content. Each bundle is approximately the size of a 6 pack of A4 photocopy paper box. Length 25" (635mm) Width 19" (482mm) Height  9" (228mm

Certi-Label™ Confidence
Not all cedar shake and shingle products are alike. Certi-label products, manufactured by Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau (hyperlink to http://www.cedarbureau.org) members, assure you of the highest quality standards. Member mills have committed to consistent quality through independent third-party inspections by accredited agencies. Each bundle of product has the mill's distinctive Certi-label tucked under the bundle strap. Asking for "the blue label" or "number one blue label" is not specific enough. Cedar Bureau members' products are the only ones with the Certi brand name on the label.

Please note that coverage is dependent on both the pitch of your roof and the subsequent exposure/gauge you use. Please contact us if you would like assistance on calculating the number of bundles you require to cover your area. For a quick reference please use the following guidelines:-

• Pitch of 14 - 22 degrees - Use an exposure/gauge of 95mm – Bundle provides coverage of 1.73m2
• Pitch of 22 degrees and over - Use an exposure/gauge of 125mm - Bundle provides coverage of 2.28m2
• Vertical cladding - Use an exposure/gauge of 190mm - Bundle provides coverage of 3.47m2
• Certigrade™ cedar shingles are produced by cutting blocks from the log to the desired length. Shingles are then taper sawn to size. This type of smooth sawn architecturally uniform cedar shingle is preferred for its natural and tailored appearance and is used on traditional and modern residential and commercial applications.
• Approximate nail usage: -1 kilo of Stainless Steel Annular Ring/Silicon Bronze nails (31mm long) will be required to fix 4 bundles of shingles. Use two nails per shingle regardless of width and nail 20mm from each edge and 40mm above the butt line of the overlapping shingle. Longer nails (50mm) will probably be required for ridges/hips.
• Green Credentials: - Certigrade Western Red cedar shingles are a well managed renewable resource, which provide a pleasing natural appearance.
• Durability: - Western Red Cedar shingles also provide a high insulation value, as well as a highly durable and long lasting roofing alternative.
• Four bundles shingles are commonly known as a square, as four bundles will cover approximately 100 sqft.
