Oak Treatments

Oak framed finishing & treatments

Oak does weather and changes from a bright finish (shown above) to a darker silvery grey (shown right) and possibly black especially closer to the ground after a number of years outside.

Externally if there are no critical joints between air-dried and/or kiln-dried and green oak; such as glazing then you can leave it to weather. For instance; garages can be left to weather.

If glazing and secondary kiln-dried/air-dried timber are ajoined to the main green oak frame, then either on-going oiling (with UV filters) is required or a breathable wood treatment is recommended to provent water ingress. A suitable maintenance programme should be adhered to, especially if the glazed oak structure is in an exposed position.
